Description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of Islamic Commercial Law, covering the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Islamic finance. It will introduce students briefly to the sources of Islamic law, including the Qur'an, Sunnah, Ijma, and Qiyas, and examine key principles such as the prohibition of riba and gharar. The course covers various Islamic financial
contracts like Musharakah, Mudaraba, and Salam, and explores how these principles apply in modern financial systems. By the end, students will be able to apply Islamic financial jurisprudence in real-world business and economic activities, ensuring Shariah-compliant practices.

About Instructor

Dr. Asad Ullah is an esteemed Assistant Professor at the Department of Shariah, Faculty of Shariah and Law, International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad. With over a decade of teaching, research, and training experience, Dr. Asad has contributed significantly to the fields of Islamic law, jurisprudence, and Islamic commercial law. He also serves as the In-Charge of the Foreign Faculty Office at IIU and is a Master Hajj Trainer affiliated with Maassalama Smc Pvt. Ltd.


Education

Dr. Asad Ullah holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Law & Jurisprudence from the International Islamic University, Islamabad (2021). His dissertation focused on the complex issue of "Blasphemy against the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon Him) and its Punishment in Pakistani Law, Islamic Law, and International Human Rights Law."

He also holds an MS in Islamic Commercial Law from IIU (2015), where he received a Gold Medal for his academic excellence. Dr. Asad has completed several advanced diplomas, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Hadith Sciences and Islamic Law, showcasing his deep understanding of classical Islamic studies and their modern applications.


Teaching and Research Experience

Dr. Asad has been part of the faculty at IIU since 2017, progressing from Lecturer to Assistant Professor. He has also served as Adjunct Faculty at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule: Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Haripur. His teaching portfolio includes diverse courses such as:

  • Legal Study of Quran and Sunnah
  • Islamic Family Law
  • Islamic Law of Banking
  • Islamic Procedural Law

His research focuses on Islamic law, contemporary jurisprudential issues, and the integration of Shariah in modern contexts. He has supervised and examined numerous master's-level research theses.

Dr. Asad is a prolific researcher with several publications in HEC-recognized journals. His notable works include:

  • Articles on paper currency in Islamic jurisprudence, blasphemy laws, and Islamic finance.
  • Books such as "Conducts of the Prophet (SAW) and their Impact on Disagreement among Jurists" and "Islamic Concept of Welfare."

He has also presented papers at national and international conferences on topics ranging from Islamic leadership to the role of sanctities in peacemaking.


Professional and Organizational Roles

Dr. Asad has taken on several administrative and organizational roles:

  • Member of key academic committees, including the Higher Studies and Research Committee at IIU.
  • Organizer of conferences, such as the 2024 Hajj and Umrah Exhibition and the International Conference on Halal Food.
  • Active contributor to curriculum development for Islamic law courses.

Hajj and Umrah Training

As a certified Master Hajj Trainer, Dr. Asad has trained pilgrims and organized events like the 1st Pakistan Hajj and Umrah Exhibition 2024. His training expertise extends to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing practical and spiritual preparation.

  • Gold Medal and Distinction Certificate for 1st position in MS Islamic Commercial Law (IIU, 2015).
  • Merit Certificates for academic excellence in Master's and Bachelor's degrees.
